An official statement from Phil Fish and Polytron after last week’s hacking fiasco

phil-fishThe creator of indie darling Fez, Phil Fish, has been known to open his mouth a little more than necessary from time to time, something that has had him constantly embroiled in controversy (particularly over Twitter). After berating gamers a few weeks ago declaring they did not deserve a follow-up to his beloved Fez, both Fish and his company Polytron had their Twitter accounts hacked. The hacking may also have been a result of what is being coined as #gamergate, a strange and convoluted disruption in the gaming sphere for which you can read a long description coming from Forbes. Reacting to the attack, a clearly frutstrated Fish had momentarily declared that both his game and the studio were up for sale.

Well as the smoke has cleared, both Fish and his company Polytron have put out a statement that reads as follows:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2014

A WORD FROM THE PRESIDENT OF POLYTRON

Phil Fish makes a statement about recent events.

NASHVILLE, TN

Good morning.

In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in this history of mankind.

Mankind — that word should have new meaning for all of us today.

We can’t be consumed by our petty differences anymore.

We will be united in our common interests.

Perhaps its fate that today is the 4th of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom, not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution — but from annihilation. We’re fighting for our right to live, to exist.

And should we win the day, the 4th of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day when the world declared in one voice:

“We will not go quietly into the night!

We will not vanish without a fight!

We’re going to live on!

We’re going to survive!”

Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!
