J.J. Abrams to Direct Star Wars

According to Hollywood Blog The Wrap, The Director of Star Trek and its coming sequel, as well as creator of hit television shows like Lost, Alias, and Fringe, will be helming the next Star Wars film being produced by Disney.

Ever since Disney purchased Lucasfilm in October last year, speculation has been huge with regards to who was going to be directing the next Star Wars film, the seventh official film in the franchise. Although Abrams’ name had come up numerous times, he was always quick to deny the rumours. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly back in November, Abrams admitted to loving the Star Wars franchise but “I have some original stuff I am working on next”.

We have not had official word from Abrams or Disney yet, so this must still be treated as rumour. The Wrap notes that they reached out to Lucasfilm spokeswoman Lynne Hale, who declined to immediately comment.
