This is just shitty, shitty news. Academy Award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has been found dead in his Manhattan home today. While we have no details as of yet on what the cause of death is, Seymour has struggled with substance abuse throughout his life.
Hoffman won an Oscar in 2005 for his role in Capote in which he played the legendary author. His most recent role was in 2013s The Hunger Games: Catching Fir. What he will be most remembered for are his roles in some of the more obscure comedies and dramas that brought him his a-list status, including Boogie Nights, The Big Lebowski, Magnolia, and in his later career: Charlie Wilson’s War, Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead, and Doubt.
I think I will most remember him as part of the main crew that made up PT Anderson’s crew throughout many of his early works including Hard Eight and the aforementioned Boogie Nights and Magnolia, and the Adam Sandler dramedy Punch Drunk Love.
This is just pure shit, plain and simple. Here’s to one of the greatest actors of our generation.
