Fresh off the interwebs, we have a trailer for the hotly anticipated follow-up to True Detective Season 1, the pathos-heavy crime drama starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. Season 2 will take place in a new setting with completely new characters. Season 2 stars Colin Ferrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams, and Taylor Kitsch. While not a lot is known about the second season, show runner Nic Pizzolatto has given us a few details: The show takes place in California – a stark contrast from the Louisiana Bayou setting in season 1. The season will follow three police officers (Ferrell, McAdams, and Kitsch). Meanwhile Vaughn is set to play Frank Semyon, a career criminal in trouble.
McConaughey’s season 1 character was known for his dark and depressing philisophical outlook on life, and it is unknown at this point whether the upcoming season will continue to promote his nihilistic outlook; however, if this trailer is anything to go by, it is evident that Season 2 will carry forward Season 1’s dark tone at the very least.
Season 2 premiers June 21. It’s time to get excited (and then really, really depressed)!
