Nintendo NX Release Date and E3 Plans (or lack thereof…)

nintendo_marioFor the last year now, we have been hearing increasingly about the Nintendo NX, the successor to the much maligned Wii U. The Wii U’s lack of success has been well covered in the game industry so it was little surprise that it’s life cycle would be shorter than the average console. Just how short, however, was left to be hypothesized. Well we no longer have to guess as Nintendo has officially stated that their next console (still referred to by its code name NX) will release in March 2017.

You would think with a release date less than a year away, it would make sense to make the official NX announcement at this coming E3 in June. You would be mistaken. Regarding its presence at the video game trade show, Nintendo has stated that they will be focussing only on the next Zelda game, which they now fully admit will launch simultaneously on both the Wii U and the new NX. This means that Nintendo has delayed the Wii U launch of Zelda for another few months, banishing all hopes for a strong Wii U presence in the later half of 2016.

Are you a Wii U owner? Does this news upset you or have you come to accept the sparseness of titles for the system?
