Most Anticipated Movies of February

It is the start of a new month here at Refined Geekery. To celebrate that fact, I thought it would be worthwhile to look at the films coming out in our immediate future. A lot of good action, comedy and drama coming to theatres this month. Here is a breakdown of the films that have my geek radar buzzing.

Bullet to the Head (February 1)

What a different approach Stallone takes to most of his fellow ageing action stars. While most try to pass off their ageing as adding vulnerability, Stallone seems to be going for the ‘age ain’t nothin but a number’ philosophy, looking as ripped as ever.  This is dark brooding Stallone. Oh, and also, there is an axe fight.

Warm Bodies (February 1)

The perfect Valentine’s Day movie about a Zombie becoming sentient (re-becoming?) and falling in love with a girl after he eats her boyfriend. Nicholas Hoult has come along way since starring as the boy in About a Boy. I thought he did a great job as Beast in X-men First Class (Bad makeup not withstanding), and I am sure he will be solid in this film as well. Rob Cordry can be hot and cold so I hope he doesn’t distract too much in this flick. I have not read the book this is based on, but it is apparently pretty fun as well.

Stand Up Guys (February 1)

Pacino and Walken as some old wise guys, one of which is just out of prison, the other tasked with killing him. It follows a bucket list style plot where they try to make the last hours count. Nice to see Pacino in Scent of a Woman mode here, just having fun.

A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III (February 8)

Roman Coppola, son of Francis Ford Coppola, directs his second full-length feature, and it looks to be a cult classic in the making. Get beyond your hatred of Charlie Sheen, sit back and enjoy. Any film that has both Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray is set to be amazing.

Side Effects (February 8)

Steven Soderbergh, master of the ensemble cast, brings together another A+ lineup in a pharmaceutical thriller of sorts. Giving Rooney Mara her fist big role since becoming the girl with the dragon tatoo, Side Effects focusses on her treatment of anxiety with medication that, as you can guess by the title, has serious side effects. Other stars include Channing Tatum, Catherine Zeta Jones, and Jude Law as her psychiatrist.

A Good Day to Die Hard (February 14)

Do we need another Die Hard movie? Probably not… Am I excited for another Die Hard movie? Of course I am. Few franchises are as fun as Die Hard. Even at its worst, the series still makes me smile. Also, gotta love the balls of releasing this, the most anti-date movie out there, on Valentines Day. Bravo Die Hard! Bravo!

Dark Skies (February 22)

When was the last time we had a great alien abduction horror? Written and Directed by Scott Stewart who is making his first movie without Paul Bettany in a while, Dark Skies looks like it could be the next great one.
